Evankovich to Host Voter ID Event on Oct. 12
10/2/2012
NEW KENSINGTON – In an effort to assist voters in the 54th District to obtain a photo identification card, state Rep. Eli Evankovich (R-Westmoreland/Armstrong) today announced that he is providing free transportation on Friday, Oct. 12, to the PennDOT Driver License Center in New Kensington, where voter ID applications are processed.

Although a voter ID card is not required to cast a ballot in the November General Election as a result of the Oct. 2 Commonwealth Court ruling, voters will likely be asked to provide proper photo identification in future elections.

Participants in the event should report to one of the five Westmoreland County Housing Authority facilities listed below, by the appropriate time, to be transported by volunteers to the PennDOT center. They must be prepared to provide their name, date of birth, Social Security number and address to qualify for a voter ID card. However, proof of residence is not required.

• 9:10 a.m. – Lower Burrell Manor, 200 Sylvan Drive, Lower Burrell.
• 9:20 a.m. – Arnold Manor, 1632 Horne Blvd., Arnold.
• 10 a.m. – Kensington Manor, 12th St. and 4th Ave., New Kensington.
• 10:20 a.m. – Parnassus Manor, 325 Main St., New Kensington.
• 11 a.m. – East Ken Manor, 200 Garlock Court, New Kensington.

Evankovich noted that any non-residents of the facilities will not be permitted to enter the buildings under any circumstances while they are waiting for transportation to arrive. The times noted are when vehicles will be departing, so participants are advised to be prompt.

Participants must register beforehand to reserve a seat by contacting Evankovich’s district office at (724) 335-2790. The deadline to register is 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 9.

“I am pleased to be able to offer this free service to assist anyone who needs a voter ID card,” said Evankovich. “The state has streamlined the application process, making it easier than ever to obtain the proper identification. I would like to thank Melvyn Smith and members of the New Kensington Eagles Club for helping to make this event possible.”
